Summertime Fun for All Abilities

With the beautiful weather upon us it’s time to get out there and really enjoy it. People of all abilities can have an incredible summer, so grab your sunscreen, some extra water, a big floppy hat and your WOW! Magic, and get ready to hear about some fun and accessible places to really live it up this summer.

Enjoy the scenery

Whether you want to stroll along a path or trail and take in some of the beautiful nature New England has to offer, or slap on some sunscreen and head to an accessible lake or beach, there are many places around that offer accessibility for all.

Get out and get active

AccesSportAmerica offers great adaptive programs like windsurfing, soccer, rowing, and tennis. The DCR Universal Access Program offers many accessible options including kayaking, canoeing, and cycling. Get out on the water and catch your first wave with Surfing With Smiles at their July 21 or August 18 events. If you are in need of adaptive equipment, such as a floating wheelchair or an adaptive bike, check out Access Recreation Boston for programs that offer rental equipment. Or enjoy a day of horseback riding at Windrush Farm in North Andover.

Feel the rhythm

You can always head over to Downtown Lowell to take in concerts at the Lowell Summer Music Series presented by Lowell National Historical Park and the Lowell Festival Foundation. The 30th Annual Lowell Folk Festival begins on Friday July 29th and continues through Sunday July 31st, 2016.

Beat the heat

On days when it’s just too hot to be outside- beat the heat by checking out the local museums.  Addison Gallery of American Art in Andover always has so much incredible artwork to take in. Or catch a show at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium or the Rogers Center for the Arts  at Merrimack College in North Andover.
