Work Choice

CHOICE! That's where we put our emphasis! Our colleages want our Guests with mental retardation to have the options, the CHOICES, available to them in the community or within our in-house business enterprise in order to make their future one that is rewarding and meaningful. Integrated work crews, employer-based job sites, volunteer opportunities and individual placement are all sought out and organized to introduce our Guests to a variety of employment choices and skills. Quality of services is carefully designed and provided based upon each individual Guest's needs, likes and desires and include job placement, job-site training and ongoing monitoring and follow-up to ensure the greatest success possible.

Career Initiatives

Career Initiatives in Lawrence and Lowell, provides educational and employment supports to Guests with psychiatric disabilities referred by the Department of Mental Health. All services are provided in the community utilizing existing resources, local schools and employers. Educational efforts may involve GED and ESL instruction, skills training or referral to post-secondary schools. Employment resources include pre-employment assessment, job placement and follow-up to ensure success. The program helps develop an individual Guest's career potential based on interest and choice. It also helps motivate Guests to realize the desired outcome.

Starworks

Starworks, working out of the Lawrence office offers supported employment services and placement to Guests with various disabilities including mental retardation, head injured, physically injured and clinical mental health histories. Focus is on areas of work that provide long term stability and realistic placement potential. Services included are: on site assessment, individual plan to target strengths and support needs, job club activities including resume writing, application exercises, interviewing skills, job searches and job interest inventory. Services to Guests with disabilities in the Hispanic community (Proyecto Hispano) include Vocational ESL to help overcome communication barriers to employment.
