Over
twenty years ago these two crazy guys gave us American Training!
Well, the "Blues Boys" are back! And guess what they're
up to now!
American
Training! HISTORY IN THE MAKING.
|
 |
| |
They said they were crazy!
They said it couldn't be done! They took a failing operation and
a broken down building and turned them around. And in the process
they helped redefine the meaning of quality performance contracting.
Now, the "Blues Boys" are back! This
time with a little more "soul", a lot of heart and a load
of fun! So, get ready
. here comes the "World Class"
American Training!

STEPPING BACK IN TIME!
The year was 1979. Saturday Night Live was one
of TV's big hits. And after many a late night and much soul searching
two crazy guys from the Northeast concluded there must be a better
way of life. (No wonder, they were broke, soon to be out of work
and headed for the unemployment line!)
|
|
| |
Tom and Art considered their options.
They could pool their musical talents and take their "blues"
show on the road or they could start an education and training business.
With the moving truck at their front door, their landlord kicking
them out and concluding that a "blues" show would never
sell, (Geez, in addition to having no musical talent these guys had
no vision either!) they set their sights on establishing a company
that would eventually become known as American
Training.

 |
THE EARLY DAYS!
From its humble beginnings in 1979 as the
Lawrence Rehabilitation Services Center, Incorporated, (Never mind
spell it nobody could pronounce it!) to Lawrence Rehab in 1982 and
finally to American Training
in 1987, the company has experienced consistent growth and success.
.
|
|
| |
What
began as a team of 32 dedicated professionals and $800,000. in revenue
has grown over the years to over 300 colleagues
(With a payroll every other week of over $160,000!) and over $13 million
dollars of comprehensive services to our communities.
This one-location, one-city company has grown into a regional powerhouse
(Humbly, of course!) with current operations (occupying over 60,000
sq. ft.) at 15 sites in 9 cities and towns north of Boston.
Those early days were
a challenge to say the least. Unanticipated expenses, unexpected
capital expenditures and just plain bad luck led Tom and Art to
really "sing the blues"! (Bad pun, huh?)
.
|
|
 |
Through
it all they never stopped believing in the ability of their Team of
"Superstars"
to pull together and deliver the best, very best quality of services
available.
For eight long years, in an old plumbing warehouse, these" Superstars"
faced challenges beyond belief. Leaky roofs (Umbrellas became a fringe
benefit!), flooded rooms, power shortages and a stolen car every once
in a while convinced everyone it was time to move on to bigger and
better things. (Actually, we were being evicted!) |

TAKING GIANT STEPS!
So, in 1987, American
Training poised itself for a new
era by moving to a then state-of-the-art facility. This physical
change was also reflected in new and creative programming which
in turn led to an expansion of our core services into the area of
residential programming. Today, our "Superstars"
manage 7 homes and over 40 apartment units for those who are experiencing
independence and meaningful community involvement for the very first
time.
This new location also
demanded the expansion of our transportation system from Cambridge
to the south, Chelmsford to the west and the Atlantic shore to the
east.(Our vehicles travel almost 700,000 miles each year and consume
over 60,000 gallons of gas!) Each and every day over 200 Guests
ride our vehicles to take advantage of the vast opportunities available
at our locations and worksites throughout the northeast.

LOOKING TOWARD BECOMING WORLD FAMOUS!
Today, American
Training has become a quiet leader
in its efforts to introduce people from all walks of life to the
power of education, training and support services.
We have outperformed all expectations because of our diversity.
In terms of our colleagues
who put innovative and effective programs into practice as well
as those who bring a "flavor" of their culture as they
partake in our services. Our colleagues
now work around the clock to bring our Guests
closer to their ideal of the American Dream. They help guarantee
that our performance continues to train, educate and place into
jobs more people and especially more limited English speaking people
than any other similar organization north of Boston.
That mission of empowering people by bringing out the best in everyone we touch has been guided by a set of principles that
clearly outlines the need to
|

make work FUN through
policies and practices that encourage clear communication, being
nice and fairness. That emphasizes the "basics" and makes
extraordinary "World Class
Service" a way of life. And that insists on respect and dignity
for all people and their opinions.
Now, just like the early days, Tom and Art are back at it again!
Looking to reinvent the training, education and support service
industry by making American Training
a FUN and ENTERTAINING place to work and learn.
With this spirit in mind,
Tom and Art invite you to join the FUN. Whether as a Colleague,
a Guest
or Partner.
Now is the time to become part of
American Training's
History in the Making!
